Support for Fiji Parliamentary Library

Carolyn Macvean

Victoria's Parliamentary Librarian, Carolyn Macvean, will undertake a one week mission to Fiji to help develop its parliamentary library.

The library project is part of an international capacity building program for the new Fiji Parliament following its reestablishment at the end of last year.

The Victorian Parliament recently signed a Parliamentary Partnership Agreement with the Fiji Parliament, paving the way for information sharing and joint training initiatives.

Development of a fully functioning library is a priority for the Fiji Parliament so that its newly elected members can access information and research services to help them with their legislative and committee work.

The library project is being undertaken jointly with the New Zealand Parliament, which is sending a research manager from its parliamentary library to participate in the mission.

The United Nations Development Programme is coordinating the capacity building effort, which is being supported by funding from the Australian Government.
