Support for Fiji Parliamentary Library

Victoria's Parliamentary Librarian, Carolyn Macvean, will undertake a one week mission to Fiji to help develop its parliamentary library.

The library project is part of an international capacity building program for the new Fiji Parliament following its reestablishment at the end of last year.

Codes of conduct explored for parliamentarians

CPA workshop

An international workshop on codes of conduct for parliamentarians has opened at Victoria's Parliament House.

The three day workshop involving representatives from a range of Commonwealth countries will consider benchmarks for parliamentary codes of conduct to agree on some recommended benchmarks that could be used across the Commonwealth.

Czech delegation encourages deeper ties

A Czech parliamentary delegation visiting Melbourne has encouraged deeper ties between Australia and the Czech Republic.

The delegation was welcomed to Victoria by the President of the Legislative Council Bruce Atkinson at a meeting held at Parliament House.

Standing strong after 125 years

Federal oak

The Federal Oak in the Parliament House gardens has turned 125 years old.

The tree was planted on 27 March 1890 by the 'Father of Federation', Sir Henry Parkes to commemorate the 1890 Australasian Federation Conference held at Parliament House in Melbourne.
