Briefly freelance journalist; admitted attorney Supreme Court 1875; practised alone till 1883, when he partnered Davies, Price & Wighton; retired 1887; from 1880 formed many land finance companies and in 1885 the Mercantile Bank of Australia;a great land boomer; insolvent 1894; tried criminally and acquitted 1893-1894; returned to his legal firm; later honorary secretary and president Law Institute Vic; .
