Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
Upfield train line level crossing removal project
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the need to support the hundreds of residents along the Upfield train line whose living conditions are under threat due to the 2019 Level Crossing Removal Project. The proposed raised train line between Coburg and Moreland stations is situated in a narrow corridor. No adequate community consultation or design measures have been put in place or publicly shown to protect residents’ privacy and from the inevitable increase in noise pollution. It is essential that the heritage listed infrastructure, including Moreland and Coburg Train Stations, are not removed or destroyed, as has happened on previous train lines during the level crossing construction phase. All proposed amenities, including community green spaces and bike paths must be built and maintained to a high standard.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to ensure that a community consultation takes place prior to construction, a noise impact assessment report is completed, adequate noise and privacy barriers are built, maintenance contracts are fulfilled to maintain the surroundings of the new train line, existing heritage buildings are preserved and a quarterly community review is implemented with Moreland City Council and Metro Trains for community feedback as part of the Upfield train line level crossing removal project.
