high school students and teachers
Senior high school students and their teachers were invited to attend the Deakin Oration 2019 at Parliament House, on Friday 6 September, to hear from Victoria’s first female Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Professor the Hon Marilyn Warren AC QC. Professor Warren spoke about the life and legacy of Australia's second Prime Minister, Alfred Deakin, and, in a Q&A with students, she reflected on her own career achievements and challenges.
Professor the Hon Marilyn Warren AC QC
Professor Warren was appointed Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Victoria in November 2003, serving in that role until October 2017. She is a Vice-Chancellor’s Professorial Fellow at Monash University, which includes contributing to teaching and learning activities within the Faculty of Law and advancing the University's interactions with the community.
What is the Deakin Oration?
The Deakin Oration is an annual presentation at Parliament House honouring Australia’s second Prime Minister and Victorian MP, Alfred Deakin and giving a contemporary context to the issues he was interested in during his parliamentary career. It is an opportunity to hear from a prominent Victorian about topical issues.
