New Bills released

Bail Amendment (Reducing Pre-trial Imprisonment of Women, Aboriginal, and Vulnerable Persons) Bill 2021

Amends the Bail Act 1977 to simplify the process of granting bail.

Education and Training Reform Amendment (Senior Secondary Pathways Reforms and Other Matters) Bill 2021

Amends the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 to implement a new vocational certificate framework in senior secondary school education which will replace the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning. The new system will be called the Victorian Pathways Certificate. The bill also enables the Victorian Registration and Qualifications Authority to extend superseded training products where students would otherwise be disadvantaged.

Forests Amendment (Forest Firefighters Presumptive Rights Compensation) Bill 2021

Provides a rebuttable presumption for forest firefighters with specific forms of cancer so that when claiming compensation it is presumed their cancer is due to the nature of their work as forest firefighters.

Terrorism (Community Protection) Amendment Bill 2021

Delays the expiration of the Terrorism (Community Protection) Act 2003 and requires a review of the Act’s operation; and aims to counter radicalisation towards violent extremism and protect counter-terrorism intelligence by providing a case management scheme and a multi-agency panel, creating the Civil Support and Engagement Order, and developing an information sharing scheme between relevant agencies.

Water and Catchment Legislation Amendment Bill 2021

Amends the Water Act 1989 and the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 to implement a range of changes in the water and catchments sectors, including to provide for recording certain information under the Water Act, the regulation of the places, rates and times at which water can be taken and to provide a new ministerial power to deal with instances where a person takes water in excess of the person’s authorised amount of water.
