Question on NoticeMr Bull (Gippsland East) to ask the Minister for Roads and Road Safety — The Princes Highway between Stratford and Bairnsdale has been voted by Royal Automobile Club of Victoria members in a recent state-wide survey as the most unsafe/dangerous road in Victoria. The predominant reason was the narrowness of the carriageway and road shoulder. Drivers reported feeling unsafe and frightened. While Regional Roads Victoria quotes reduced fatalities in the area it does not recognise the significant increase in serious crashes or the concerns raised by local police, ambulance paramedics and CFA captains who are often first responders. All recognise the spate of serious accidents.
Will the Minister work with me on this and request a truly independent audit of the state of the road safety works on the Princes Highway and commit to acting on the audit’s findings.
