Question on Notice

Mr Battin to ask the Minister for Transport Infrastructure — In relation to Stage 2 of the Monash Freeway Upgrade:

Will sound barriers along the Monash Freeway from Clyde Road along Kangan Drive, Berwick be included in the Freeway upgrade.

Answered: 26 September 2019

I am pleased to advise the member that in partnership with the Commonwealth Government we are adding 36kms of new lanes to the Monash Freeway including a new outbound lane between Warrigal Road and Eastlink, a new inbound lane between Eastlink to Springvale Road and an additional lane in each direction between Clyde Road to Cardinia Road.

We will also build new ramps at Police Road, connect the Jacksons Road ramps to EastLink and extend O'Shea Road to the Beaconsfield interchange.

The upgrade will slash nine minutes off a morning peak hour trip between Pakenham and the city and 13 minutes in the evening peak period.

The installation of a sound barrier on the Monash Freeway from Clyde Road along Kangan Drive, Berwick, is not included as part of the Monash Freeway Upgrade, as it does not trigger the requirement of the VicRoads Traffic Noise Reduction Policy (2005).

The management of traffic noise on the road network, including the Monash Freeway and Princes Freeway, is governed by this policy and can be accessed via the VicRoads website.
