Legistrative Council E-Petitions

E-petition Number
Revise the 426 Bus Route
The Petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council the proposal by Public Transport Victoria to change bus route 216.

The petitioners note the importance of the original 216 bus route in servicing the needs of the western suburbs community in providing an uninterrupted and safe travel option from Caroline Springs to Melbourne CBD.

The petitioners express their deep concerns at the recent revision of this route into the new 426 route that runs from Caroline Springs to Sunshine only. The 216 route now runs from Brighton to Sunshine. A seemingly odd route given some petitioners have noted almost all passengers on the 216 route disembark in the city.

The current 426 route requires an unsafe and unnecessary transition (especially at night) from one bus to another at Sunshine to access the CBD. The vulnerable, elderly and people with mobility issues would benefit from a direct bus service rather than the required transition to another bus or train service.
The Petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Minister for Public Transport, Hon. Melissa Horne MP, to revise the 426 bus route to run from Caroline Springs to Melbourne CBD via Footscray to allow the western suburbs community a safe, direct bus route to the city.
