“ The Engaging Communities in Democracy project took place on the lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung and Boon Wurrung peoples of the Kulin Nations. We acknowledge the Traditional Custodians throughout the country now called Australia and their continuing connection to their ancestral lands and waters. We pay our respects to Elders past and present. ”
Welcome
This toolkit aims to answer some of the questions you may have about the Parliament of Victoria and your local Member of Parliament (MP).
You'll find a range of videos and resources that explain how our democratic systems work and how you can get involved. We will introduce you to members of the community in Victoria’s Eastern Metropolitan Region, who share their experiences working with parliament and their local MPs, participating in the law-making process, and seeking support for projects and issues they care about.
You are welcome to download and share the resources in this toolkit, which have been developed by the Eastern Community Legal Centre (ECLC), in partnership with the Parliament of Victoria. The information provided is based on the experiences of people living in Victoria's Eastern Metropolitan Region, with input from Members of Parliament and their local Electorate Officers.

We want community members to feel confident in their knowledge and understanding of parliament and how they can interact with their local representatives.
You could share this toolkit on your local faith or cultural group’s social media page, WhatsApp group, newsletter or website. You may even want to organise a meeting with your local faith or cultural group, where you can watch the video together and discuss what you’ve learned.
