Petition Allow multiple accessible parking permits per individual

The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that disabled people are not allowed multiple accessible parking permits due to potential for misuse, and are only assigned one permit per individual.

While we understand the Government's perspective, it makes harsh assumptions about people in general. An example is a person who has ADHD and fibromyalgia, where they frequently forget to do things that are important, such as switching their permit to their partner's car and putting themselves at a severe disadvantage.

Some councils have disabled street parking for people who do not have parking in their residences. In these instances if a family member or a friend wants to take someone who has an accessible parking permit somewhere they cannot use the persons permit otherwise their vehicles will be fined or towed.

Many disabled Australians are in the same situation. This could easily be fixed with stricter enforcement, but the Government has decided that it is easier to put disabled people at risk, than to monitor and enforce rules. We demand to be treated with respect as equal citizens.

The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to allow disabled persons to obtain multiple accessible parking permits.
