The petition of certain citizens of the State of Victoria draws to the attention of the Legislative Council that plastic litter is a huge problem in Australia, making up 81 per cent of all litter. Most of this litter is processed snacks from local supermarkets. These snacks are mass-produced and eaten every day, and the plastic packaging ends up littering and polluting our environment. This is a massive ongoing problem as plastic is non-biodegradable. We ask for a solution to use eco-friendly packaging such as paper and carboard, as they are biodegradable and easily recyclable.
The petitioners therefore request that the Legislative Council call on the Government to ban plastic packaging for supermarket snacks.
