Walking together to recognise Aboriginal Change Makers

A new education resource that presents the stories of Aboriginal Change Makers has been officially launched.
Aboriginal Elders, parliamentary representatives, teachers and students gathered at Worawa Aboriginal College in Healesville for a moving ceremony to launch the resource.
'Today we are walking together, said Legislative Assembly Speaker Colin Brooks when he joined the College’s Principal Dr Lois Peeler AM in officially launching the project, which was developed jointly by the College under Dr Peeler’s leadership and the Victorian Parliament’s community engagement team.
During her speech at the launch, Dr Peeler said the stories of the Aboriginal Change Makers are deserving of being taught across the curriculum as heroes of Australia.
'Aboriginal Change Makers gives a voice to the stories and remembrances and experiences of people who worked tirelessly to bring about change in the lives of Aboriginal people,' she said.
Worawa students featured in the ceremony with poetry, dance and songs.
Local MP, Cindy McLeish (Member for Eildon) and the Deputy Chair of the Yoorrook Justice Commission, Commissioner Sue-Anne Hunter also attended the launch that included a visit to the Worawa History Walk that honours the Aboriginal Leaders featured in the education resource.
The event was held during National Reconciliation Week.
