In the past five years, a total of 90 resurfacing contracts have been issued by the Department of Transport and Planning (DTP).

In 2018-19, the total number of contracts was one, twelve, five, one, one, and seven across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively. The value of these contracts was $39.8 million, $33.4 million, $20.8 million, $17.2 million and $80.7 million across the Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively. 2018-19 figures for Barwon South West region are not available.

In 2019-20, the total number of contracts was one, five, one, one, one, and seven across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively. The value of these contracts was $48.7 million, $26.1 million, $16.6 million, $37.4 million, $12.7 million, and $73.8 million across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively.

In 2020-21, the total number of contracts was one, four, seven, one, one, and seven across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively. The value of these contracts was $44.3 million, $31.1 million, $16.2 million, $45.9 million, $21.4 million, and $94.4 million across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively.

In 2021-22, the total number of contracts was one, four, three, one, one, and five across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively. The value of these contracts was $35.1 million, $34.4 million, $17.4 million, $38.2 million, $14.1 million, and $32.1 million across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively.

In 2022-23, the total number of contracts was one, three, two, one, one, and three across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively. The value of these contracts was $45.5 million, $27.1 million, $21.8 million, $58 million, $14.2 million, and $34.8 million across the Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland, and Metro regions, respectively.

In the current financial year, there is forecast to be eight contracts totalling a value of $37.6 million across in each of Barwon South West, Grampians, Loddon Mallee, Hume, Gippsland and Metro regions.

Please note that Grampians and Loddon-Mallee shared a contract for resealing works, for which figures are unable to be split and the value is included in Grampians’ figures. Also note that in Grampians regions, these works were delivered under one alliance- there would have been multiple contracts let, however this information is not available.

Resurfacing is just one element of our maintenance program. Due to the extreme level of damage to the road network caused by recent years’ unprecedented storm and flooding events, rebuilding and strengthening our roads from the ground up is the major target of our current maintenance program.
