Mr Joe McCracken
Meet Joe
Prior to entering Parliament, Joe worked in the family run pub. While he studied at University and afterwards he worked as a tax accountant, focussing on small businesses and farmers. Joe retrained as a teacher and worked in that field for 10 years. He was head of the Humanities department, careers coordinator and mentor induction coordinator. He also served as a councillor for Colac-Otway shire between 2016-2022, serving as Mayor in 2017-18, and Deputy Mayor 2018-2020.
He was born, educated, and has worked his entire adult life in Western Victoria. His motivation is to represent his community and make it better for current and future generations, particularly for our young people. This is what prompted him to run for Parliament.
Joe’s priority as a Member of Parliament is to fairly and fiercely represent his community. His grandmother had always said “you were given two ears and one mouth - use them in those proportions”, so he sees a big part of his role as listening, learning and supporting his community as best he can.
He is particularly interested in:
- Local Government
- Education
- Economic Development
- Roads
- Population
- Regulatory reform
