New Augmented Reality experience at Parliament House
03 June 2024
Can’t make it in to visit the Parliament of Victoria? Our new Augmented Reality experience enables you to virtually visit parliament to learn about the history of parliament, the work of Members of Parliament and how you can have your say.
Visiting Parliament House can some times be tricky; between events, opening hours, at-capacity tours and parliament sittings, it can sometimes be hard to find a time to find out about the state legislature and the building that works for you. As such, we have been working tirelessly over the last 18 months to develop our new Augmented Reality experience. The experience is designed to help people have access to learning about the history and work of the Victorian Parliament when access might not be possible.
The experience is split into five different sections across the carriage way, positioned inbetween the physical columns on the facade of Parliament House. The experience covers:
1. Pre-colonial history of the land on which Parliament House sits
2. The evolution of Parliament House
3. A brief social history of parliament and the concept of representation
4. The work of Members of Parliament
5. Connecting with parliament and having your say
Our Augmented Reality experience will enable you to access information at any time, from the steps of Parliament House.
If you’re in the city you can access the experience by scanning the QR code at the top of the parliament steps with your mobile device, and following the prompts on the website to download the ARConnect app. The Augmented Reality experience will then be displayed on your mobile screen. Whilst the audio contained in the videos is quite clear and the videos are captioned, we recommend that you bring some headphones to block out the surrounding noise for a more immersive experience.
Don't forget to wander across the steps and look at some of the photos from across the history of Parliament of Victoria.
