Luba Grigorovitch

Meet Luba

Luba grew up in Melbourne’s West, completing high school at Mount St Joseph Girls College in Altona West before being accepted to Victoria University where she completed a double degree in Business and Arts. In 2014, she became the first woman and youngest ever State Secretary of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU), of 8000+ members. In her role as the Victorian Branch Secretary of the RTBU, she spent her working life advocating to ensure members are respected in the workplace, improve conditions at work and safety on the job. Looking out and standing up for working people is important to Luba because she understands firsthand the need to be valued, respected and safe in your workplace.

Luba was fortunate enough to work for the late Lynne Kosky, former State Member for Altona as an Electorate Officer. This was truly a blessing for Luba and helped shape who she is today. Luba considered Lynne a valuable mentor in her life and someone she will always be grateful to. Once Luba completed university, she was employed with the Victorian Department of Transport and VicTrack, which is where she started her journey with the RTBU Victoria. In between all of this, the opportunity to assist people and improve her community arose and she put her hand up to run as a councillor for Hobsons Bay City Council. Luba was successful and served close to two terms before stepping down in 2014. This experience with Local Government gave her valuable insight and the opportunities to make a difference to people’s lives in our community. This is what prompted her to run for Parliament.

The main passion and priority Luba has as a member of Parliament is to work tirelessly for the people of Kororoit, to help bring more jobs, better education, and world-class health care to the western suburbs. That means upgrades to local schools, funding for our public hospitals and building the roads and rail that Victoria needs. Luba has a belief that, together, we can be part of something greater than ourselves. This has inspired her to always put in 100%. Kororoit is a vibrant, diverse part of the west and Luba is excited by the opportunity and ready to represent the community's interests and to keep making sure that they and their families have a strong and powerful voice.
