Inquiry into the 2019-20 Budget Estimates

The Public Accounts and Estimates Committee has made 63 recommendations in its Report on the 2019-20 Budget Estimates which was tabled in Parliament on 29 October 2019. The recommendations to departments are designed to encourage the effective and efficient delivery of public services and assets and improve understanding of the budget papers. A copy of the report can be found on the inquiry page.

Inquiry into gender responsive budgeting

The Public Accounts and Estimates Committee has launched a new public inquiry into the way the state government budget addresses gender equality. The Committee’s inquiry will examine how gender responsive budgeting at the state level can help to address inequality. More information about the inquiry, including how to make a submission can be found on the inquiry page

Highlights from the 2019-20 Budget estimates hearings

This year’s Budget estimates hearings began with the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee questioning the Treasurer and Premier about the $70 billion to be spent by the Victorian Government on services and infrastructure in 2019-20. Here’s a snapshot from the first day of the hearings. 

 

Energy, recycling and climate change were among the issues considered on day 3 of the hearings when the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee questioned Minister Lily D'Ambrosio.

Government plans for 2019-20 in health and various community services were put under scrutiny on day 5 of the hearings.

 The final day of this year's budget estimates hearings saw the Public Accounts and Estimates Committee scrutinising the government's 2019-20 plans for police, emergency services, crime prevention and justice.
